Here is a quick and simple recipe for a Homemade Chemical Free Laundry Detergent. 3 Tbsp of Castile Soap, 6 Tbsp of Borax, and 6 Tbsp Washing soda add this to a 1 gallon container along with 4 cups of hot water shake to mix and your done. This is what I use at home to wash my laundry and I love it. I honestly cant stand the smell of the store bought brands any more. Not to mention the insane amount of chemicals and in some cases narcotics that they contain, Yup! really look it up it's scary. I challenge every one who reads this to go natural for one year especially if you have unexplained respiratory problems or if you get dizzy, tired etc. It could be the chemicals. Get rid of the fabric softeners, please get rid of the dryer sheets, laundry detergents, basically anything in your home that contains artificial fragrance. I know I know but this stuff really is nasty and toxic. And it's totally possible to be chemical free. Just start slowly and switch out one product at a time. The internet is loaded with recipes and directions and there are plenty of company's out there that make natural and safe alternatives to all of the products that you are used to if your not in to making your own. You can even add natural scents from essential oils.

Here is a really informative article from a great site called life.gaiam.com They go on to say that according to the health and wellness website Sixwise.com, some of the most harmful ingredients in dryer sheets and liquid fabric softener alike include benzyl acetate (linked to pancreatic cancer), benzyl alcohol (an upper respiratory tract irritant), ethanol (linked to central nervous system disorders), limonene (a known carcinogen) and chloroform (a neurotoxin and carcinogen), among others.
